For any fundraiser to
be truly successful it takes a little extra work. Just saying
"do you want to buy this for my organization" is fine,
but excitement builds excitement. Have fun with your fundraising
project. Your enthusiasm will rub off on the people that you
share your fundraising project with. Look at the following
example:
Example: "Hi,
I am going on a school trip and we found a company that has provided us with these super discount cards to
help us raise money. Take a look at this!(As you hand it to
them). These cards have all kinds of "buy one, get one
free" offers and these really cool key-tags for Subway and
Boomers. Best of all, it is reusable over and over. It has
hundreds of dollars in savings and we are only selling it for
ten dollars! Would you mind buying a couple to help support our
fundraiser?".
People like to give
to a good cause, but if there is a benefit for them, they will
be more likely to buy from you.
Selling is Fun
Here is a great
chance for you to try something fun...selling! Make it a
game. Tell and show everyone! You can be excited,
creative, goofy, or whatever feels natural, but never get
discouraged. Selling may be a little uncomfortable, but remember
a few things. First, you are working for a good cause.
Second, your are offering a great service. Third, you don't have
to do it alone.
Multiply Your
Efforts
Find some people to
help you sell your cards. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles,
friends and neighbors are great candidates to help you sell more
cards! When I was a kid I would ask my dad to take my
fundraisers to work with him. I have done the same with my kids.
People like to support their friends, relatives and co-workers
as well as their community.
Just because you are
talking to one person doesn't mean that they will only need or
want one card. Some people will buy more for a spouse, their
kids, their friends, etc. All you need to do is ask. You can ask
up front or wait until after they have committed to buying one.
Examples: "How
many cards would you like?", "Would your husband/wife
like to have a Subway key-tag too?", "Do you have any
friends that might want one too?". "You know, I have a
lot of cards to sell. Would you mind buying an extra card for
someone else in your family?", "These cards make great
gifts! Do you know anyone else that would like to save
some money?".
Keep in mind that
many people and businesses will donate millions of dollars to
charities this year. With this fundraiser they can donate money
and receive something in return. Also keep in mind that when
they purchase cards from a non-profit fundraising group they can
write it off as a tax credit! In a nutshell, this card can put
money back in their pockets in more ways than one!
Set Goals
Goal setting is
important. Have you ever heard of a "round tuit"? As
in, "I will get around to it". If you don't know where
you are going how can you get there? Get your Fundraiser GPS!
"Goals Perpetuate Sales" or "Goals Produce
Sales". Is 100 cards hard to sell? Not if you put your mind
to it and have fun. Write down your goals and set a realistic
time-frame for you to reach them.
To help you attain
your goals make a list of all of the people you know and things
you can do to sell your cards. Some stores, with their
permission, will even let people
set up a table for fundraising at their front door!

This card offers people a convenient, no-hassle way to save
without having to clip coupons or remember special codes from
the tv or radio! It fits in a wallet or purse and has unlimited
uses! Also, more offers are available to card holders online,
with more being added all the time.
Be Safe
Please be careful if
you decide to market to strangers. If you are a minor, ask
permission from your parents before you do anything. It is also
a good idea to take them with you. Use the buddy system. Always
go with a friend. Don't solicit where you feel uncomfortable or
cannot be seen. Do not sell where there is a posted "no
soliciting" sign. Be respectful and polite to everyone
whether they are nice to you or not.
Video and blog coming
soon! We will be posting ideas from other people that have had
success in selling for their fundraisers!
